Yellow Submarine sink Barca

Barcelona’s La Liga title hopes are in tatters after they failed to close the gap to leaders Real Madrid after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Villarreal.
Barca were looking to reduce Real’s eight-point lead following their victory over Espanyol on Saturday, but Frank Rijkaard’s side lost at home in the league for only the second time this season.
Marcos Senna had given Villarreal the lead from the penalty spot in the first half before Xavi equalised midway through the second period.
But Jon-Dahl Tomasson’s late winner secured the points for the third-placed Yellow Submarine, who now seem certain to secure Champions League football for next season.
Fifth-placed Racing Santander also boosted their European chances with a comfortable 3-0 success over ten-man Real Betis at El Sardinero.
Sevilla were made to work hard by bottom-placed Levante, but Luis Fabiano’s 20th league goal of the season secured a narrow 2-1 victory for the Andalucian club.
Meanwhile, Real Mallorca moved up to 11th place in the table after thrashing a dismal Recreativo Huelva side 7-1 at Son Moix.
Osasuna moved further clear of the drop zone following a 2-1 win against Almeria, while Deportivo La Coruna earned a share of the spoils with a 2-2 draw at Valencia.
However, newly-installed coach Javier Clemente was unable to prevent struggling Murcia from slipping to a 3-0 defeat to home to Getafe.
Pablo Hernandez, Juan Angel Albin and Francisco Javier Casquero were all on the scoresheet for the in-form Madrid club.
