Inter Milan vs. Liverpool preview

Liverpool is in Italy to face Inter Milan in the Champions League first knockout round. Liverpool won the first leg match at home with 2 goals to nil. So they are in quite strong position as Inter Milan is facing injury and suspension problems too.
In the flight to Liverpool, the Merseyside midfielder, Xabi Alonso was missing. He is out for the match against Inter Milan due to the birth of his first child. Alonso opted to stay in England as his wife is set to give birth.
Rafa Benitez said on this issue: “He had clear ideas. He wanted to come out only if everything was OK. We couldn’t just wait and then hear no information. So in the end we had to decide. I can’t wait and wait and wait for one player right until the end when you don’t know what’s going on.”
On the other hand, Javier Mascherano is fit to play for Liverpool after dead-leg and is set to be partner with Lucas in the midfield.
Liverpool’s vice captain, Jamie Carragher will play his 100th European game.
Good news for Inter Milan as striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is fit to play. He was doubtful after a knee injury, whereas Christian Chivu is still doubtful for the match against Liverpool. Marco Materazzi is facing suspension for this match.
